• The Prelims Exam consists of two papers – General Studies-I and General Studies-II (CSAT). 
• Only the marks obtained in the General Studies-I are counted for merit ranking. 
• General Studies-II (CSAT) is only qualifying in nature, with minimum qualifying marks of 33 percent.

Selection Rate of Female Candidates

In order to achieve gender equality in the country, the female candidates are being encouraged & progressively grabbing their deserved place in the civil service sector.

• The information about female candidates is yet to be analysed for the year 2025.
• However, Female candidates have grabbed 3 out of the top 5 ranks in the CSE 2024.
• Female candidates have grabbed 6 out of the top 10 ranks in the CSE 2023.
• This is a clear jump from 4 out of the top 10 in the CSE 2022.
• In terms of overall selections, 352 out of a total of 1016 results in the UPSC CSE 2023 are females.
• In the UPSC CSE 2022, this was 320 out of a total of 933 selections.
