International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

  • India secured the third position by winning five medals at the 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA)-2022 held in Kutaisi, Georgia,

About IOAA 

  • It is governed by a set of Statutes, initially derived from those of the International Physics Olympiad, and subsequently modified (through a voting process described in the statues) to better reflect the needs of the competition. 
    • All participants agree to abide by the terms of the Statutes.
  • According to the statutes, the governing body of the IOAA organisation is the International Board (IB), sometimes also called the International Board Meeting.
  • It aims to promote the growing interest in Astronomy and related STEM subjects, especially through the general education of young people
  • It also aims to enhance the development of international contacts among different countries in promoting Astronomy and Astrophysics in schools.
