India marked National Vaccination Day (March 16) to highlight achievements in immunisation.

About

Vaccination has played a transformative role in improving public health in India. The country has eradicated smallpox (1977) and eliminated polio (last case in 2011), yaws, and maternal & neonatal tetanus.

It has significantly reduced child mortality and the burden of diseases such as measles-rubella and tuberculosis.

India emerged as the “pharmacy of the world” during COVID-19, administering over 200 crore vaccine doses and supplying vaccines globally. Notably, India contributes nearly 60% of global vaccine production.

India’s Power Sector: Progress and Reforms

India’s power sector has transitioned from a deficit-driven system to a more reliable and capacity-sufficient system due to sustained investments, policy reforms, and institutional strengthening over the past decade.

Key Achievements of Power Sector

India’s installed power capacity reached 520.51 GW as of January 2026, with the power shortage declining from 4.2% in FY14 to 0.03% till December 2025.

Per capita electricity consumption increased to 1,460 kilowatt-hours in 2024–25, reflecting rising energy access and economic activity.

DISCOMs recorded a profit of ₹2,701 crore in FY25, reversing earlier financial losses.

Levels and Trends in Child Mortality

The United Nations Inter-Agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UNIGME) Report 2025 was released recently.

Major Highlights

Child Mortality: An estimated 4.9 million children died before turning 5 years old in 2024, including 2.3 million newborns.

Newborn deaths account for nearly half of all under-five deaths, reflecting slower progress in preventing deaths around the time of birth.

Most of these deaths were preventable with proven, low-cost interventions and access to quality healthcare.

Declining Fertility: India’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR) has declined to near replacement level of 2.1, reflecting a transition towards population stabilisation.

Slowing Population Growth: India’s population is projected to increase from about 1.35 billion in 2021 to 1.59 billion by 2051, indicating a steady but slowing growth trajectory.

एडिपोज़ ऊतक एक विशेष संयोजी ऊतक है, जो अतिरिक्त ऊर्जा को वसा के रूप में संग्रहीत करता है, हार्मोन स्राव के माध्यम से चयापचय को नियंत्रित करता है तथा महत्वपूर्ण अंगों की सुरक्षा और इन्सुलेशन प्रदान करता है।

यह एक अंतःस्रावी अंग के रूप में कार्य करता है और निम्नलिखित हार्मोन स्रावित करता है:

लेप्टिन (Leptin): भूख और ऊर्जा संतुलन को नियंत्रित करता है।

राष्ट्रीय टीकाकरण दिवस

भारत ने राष्ट्रीय टीकाकरण दिवस (16 मार्च) मनाया, ताकि टीकाकरण में हुई उपलब्धियों को उजागर किया जा सके। यह दिवस 1995 में पल्स पोलियो कार्यक्रम के अंतर्गत दी गई ओरल पोलियो वैक्सीन की प्रथम खुराक की स्मृति में मनाया जाता है।

परिचय

टीकाकरण ने भारत में जनस्वास्थ्य सुधारने में परिवर्तनकारी भूमिका निभाई है। देश ने चेचक (1977) का उन्मूलन किया, पोलियो (2011 का अंतिम मामला), यॉज़ तथा मातृ एवं नवजात टिटनेस को समाप्त किया।

इससे बाल मृत्यु दर में उल्लेखनीय कमी आई और खसरा-रूबेला तथा क्षय रोग जैसी बीमारियों का भार घटा।

COVID-19 के दौरान भारत “विश्व की फार्मेसी” के रूप में उभरा, जहाँ 200 करोड़ से अधिक टीके लगाए गए और वैश्विक स्तर पर आपूर्ति की गई। उल्लेखनीय है कि भारत वैश्विक टीका उत्पादन में लगभग 60% योगदान देता है।

भारत का विद्युत क्षेत्र: प्रगति और सुधार

भारत का विद्युत क्षेत्र विगत दशक में सतत निवेश, नीतिगत सुधारों और संस्थागत सुदृढ़ीकरण के कारण घाटा-प्रधान प्रणाली से एक अधिक विश्वसनीय एवं क्षमता-संपन्न प्रणाली में परिवर्तित हुआ है।

बाल मृत्यु दर: वर्ष 2024 में अनुमानित 4.9 मिलियन बच्चों की मृत्यु पाँच वर्ष की आयु पूरी करने से पहले हुई, जिनमें 2.3 मिलियन नवजात शामिल थे।

नवजात मृत्यु कुल पाँच वर्ष से कम आयु की मृत्यु का लगभग आधा हिस्सा है, जो जन्म के समय के आसपास मृत्यु रोकने में धीमी प्रगति को दर्शाता है।

इनमें से अधिकांश मृत्यु सिद्ध, कम लागत वाले हस्तक्षेपों और गुणवत्तापूर्ण स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं की पहुँच से रोकी जा सकती थीं।
