History of this Day
Daughters Day in India began in 2007. The greeting card company Archies contributed to popularise the observance of the day to encourage people to treat their girl child at par with their son.
The need for daughters day was felt at the time when there were high preferences for son over daughter child in the society. Additionally, some of the other factors were female foeticide, dowry system, and limited opportunities for girls. The day gradually became a social campaign for the education, health, safety, and empowerment of girl children. It is observed on the 4th Sunday of September though some countries and organisations use different dates.
