  • भारत को प्रदूषित पारिस्थितिक तंत्रों को पुनर्स्थापित करने और सतत शहरी विकास सुनिश्चित करने के लिए तत्काल जैव-उपचारण (Bioremediation) की आवश्यकता है, क्योंकि 16 लाख टन से अधिक पुराना अपशिष्ट मौजूद है।

  • इसका अर्थ है ‘जीवविज्ञान के माध्यम से जीवन को पुनर्स्थापित करना’। इसमें जीवित जीवों — बैक्टीरिया, कवक, शैवाल और पौधों — का उपयोग किया जाता है ताकि तेल, प्लास्टिक एवं भारी धातुओं जैसे प्रदूषकों को तोड़ा या निष्क्रिय किया जा सके।
