भारत में “घृणा अपराध” शब्द को कानून में अलग से परिभाषित नहीं किया गया है, किंतु ऐसे कृत्य भारतीय दंड संहिता (IPC) और अब भारतीय न्याय संहिता (BNS), 2023 की विभिन्न धाराओं के अंतर्गत दंडनीय हैं।
