  • According to a new study published in the journal Science, If the world gets warmer by 2.7°C due to the current trajectory of climate policies, only 24% of the world’s present-day glaciers will remain.

  • विज्ञान पत्रिका में प्रकाशित एक नई अध्ययन के अनुसार, यदि वर्तमान जलवायु नीतियों के अंतर्गत वैश्विक तापमान 2.7°C तक बढ़ जाता है, तो दुनिया की वर्तमान हिमनदों का केवल 24% ही बच पाएगा।

    • हिमनद क्या हैं? 

  • ये बड़े और मोटे हिम के पर्वतीय जमाव हैं, जो सदियों तक हिम के जमा होने के कारण भूमि पर बनते हैं। हिमनद पृथ्वी के ताजे पानी का 70% हिस्सा रखते हैं और वर्तमान में ग्रह की भूमि क्षेत्र के लगभग 10% हिस्से को कवर करते हैं।
  • अत्यधिक हिमनद हानि: अध्ययन चेतावनी देता है कि यदि तापमान आज ही बढ़ना बंद हो जाए, तब भी हिमनद अपने कुल मात्रा का 39% खो देंगे (2020 के स्तर की तुलना में), जिससे समुद्र स्तर में 113 मिमी वृद्धि होगी।
