UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 Updates The General Studies (GS) paper 1 of the exam heavily required the conceptual clarity of the subject and the paper is slightly tougher than previous year prelims exam. In 2026, approximately 8,19,372 applicants registered for the UPSC Prelims exam for about a total of 933 vacancies.

This year the weightage of the questions from Economy is 19, Environment is 11, Geography is 13, History and Art n Culture, Polity and Governance is 8, Science and Technology is 18 and rest 11 questions are from Miscellaneous. Few questions were from the perspective of ethics decision making type questions. Many Economy questions were linked directly to contemporary issues. In history, UPSC primarily focussed in Ancient part and art n culture. The CSAT paper was concluded and the difficulty level of the paper was consistent with the UPSC prelims 2025.
