    • The<\/span><\/span><\/span> new study uses climate models<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span><\/span> field observations <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>and data from 1958 to 2019 to show that the <\/span><\/span><\/span>cold water patch chilled <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>the air over Iceland sufficiently to<\/span><\/span><\/span> slow ice loss starting in 2011 <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • This helped them to understand how much the ice has increased or decreased over the glaciers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

        • The <\/span><\/span><\/span>Blue Blob<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> is a <\/span><\/span><\/span>cold patch located<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> south of Iceland and Greenland and little is known about it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

          • However, a recent study theories that it may have helped temporarily stall the <\/span><\/span><\/span>melting of Arctic sea ice<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

            • Scientists are still investigating the impact of this cold water area on surrounding regions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
