It is pronounced \u201cOrnab\u201d. In Bengali, the word Arnab means \u201cocean\u201d or \u201csea.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are Cyclones<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The word Cyclone is derived from the <strong>Greek word Cyclos, <\/strong>meaning the <strong>coils of a snake.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was coined by <strong>Henry Peddington<\/strong> because the tropical storms in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea appear like coiled serpents of the sea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cyclones are <strong>powerful, rotating storms<\/strong> that form over warm ocean waters, characterized by low pressure at the center and high winds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e9d6a6\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e9d6a6;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"962\" height=\"211\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-7.webp\" alt=\"cyclones\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-87467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-7.webp 962w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-7-300x66.webp 300w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-7-768x168.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 962px) 100vw, 962px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Worldwide terminology: <\/strong>Cyclones are given many names in different regions of the world:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are known as <strong>typhoons <\/strong>in the China Sea and Pacific Ocean; <strong>hurricanes <\/strong>in the Caribbean Sea, West Indian islands, and the Atlantic Ocean; <strong>tornados <\/strong>in the Guinea lands of West Africa and southern USA; <strong>willy-willies<\/strong> in north-western Australia and <strong>tropical cyclones <\/strong>in the Indian Ocean.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is a Cyclone Formed?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Conditions: <\/strong>Cyclones typically form over <strong>warm ocean waters<\/strong>, the warmth provides the necessary<strong> heat and moisture <\/strong>to fuel the cyclone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Formation of a Low-Pressure System:<\/strong> When the air rises up and away from the ocean surface, it creates an <strong>area of lower air pressure below.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It causes the air from surrounding areas with higher pressure to move towards the low-pressure area which further leads to<strong> warming up of the air and causes it to rise above.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cyclonic Circulation:<\/strong> The rotation of the Earth (Coriolis effect) causes the rising air to start spinning around the low-pressure center.
