{"id":86429,"date":"2026-10-08T18:25:40","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T12:55:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=86429"},"modified":"2026-10-08T18:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T12:58:14","slug":"news-in-short-08-10-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/08-10-2026\/news-in-short-08-10-2026","title":{"rendered":"News In Short 08-10-2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>WHO Releases First Global Guidelines on Child Obesity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/Health<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued its <strong>first global guidelines<\/strong> for addressing <strong>obesity among children and adolescents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Obesity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a chronic, relapsing disease whose consequences can begin early in life. Overweight is a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 25; and obesity is a BMI greater than or equal to 30.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Obesity can increase the<strong> risk of non-communicable diseases,<\/strong> including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children and adolescents living with obesity may also face <strong>mental health challenges, stigma, discrimination and bullying.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Status of Obesity&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Around 170 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 years<\/strong> were living with obesity in 2024.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This includes approximately <strong>70 million children aged 5-9 years <\/strong>and 100 million adolescents aged 10-19 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The prevalence of obesity among 5-19-year-olds has <strong>quadrupled since 1990, rising from 2% to 8%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Recommendations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WHO recommends structured interventions <strong>covering diet, physical activity and behaviour change.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has also conditionally recommended <strong>digital health interventions,<\/strong> provided they are carried out under the supervision of a parent or caregiver.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For children aged 0-9 years,<\/strong> the WHO does not recommend the use of weight-loss medicines, bariatric surgery or weight-loss devices for obesity treatment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For adolescents aged 10-19 years<\/strong>, approved medicines may be considered only when a supervised multimodal lifestyle programme has not delivered the desired results.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bariatric surgery<\/strong> may also be considered for adolescents with severe obesity, but only under strict conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Healthcare workers should address obesity and mental health conditions together,<\/strong> using inclusive and age-appropriate approaches that involve families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2026\/10\/1168536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WHO<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>RBI to Allow Interoperability Among Account Aggregators<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/ Economy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will enable interoperability among Non-Banking Finance Company Account Aggregators (NBFC-AAs), allowing individuals to access information on their financial assets through a single platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The move will <strong>allow customers to link bank accounts with demat accounts <\/strong>and access consolidated financial information through their account aggregator.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It will also enable Sebi-regulated depositories to include bank deposit information in their consolidated account statements (CAS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About&nbsp; Account Aggregators<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An Account Aggregator (AA) is a type of <strong>Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC-AA)<\/strong> regulated by the <strong>Reserve Bank of India (RBI).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is a <strong>consent-based financial data-sharing platform<\/strong> that enables individuals to securely access and share their financial information between participating financial institutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The AA <strong>does not store the customer&#8217;s financial data<\/strong>;
