and records parameters such as voltage, current and energy usage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microcontroller and Chip:<\/strong> It processes and stores electricity-consumption data and controls the meter\u2019s electronic functions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Communication Module: <\/strong>It enables <strong>two-way communication <\/strong>between the smart meter and the DISCOM, allowing automatic transmission of consumption data and receipt of commands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security System: <\/strong>Uses authentication, encryption and other safeguards to protect meter data and wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>RDSS was introduced in <strong>2021<\/strong> with the objective to increase operational efficiency and financial sustainability of energy distribution businesses (DISCOMs).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It aims at<strong> lowering distribution losses,<\/strong> enhancing the quality and reliability of electricity supply and upgrading distribution infrastructure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The programme has a large component of smart metering,
