These are: <\/strong>the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). Together, they form a network of around <strong>2,843 km.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC)<\/strong> is around 1,337 km long.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It starts from<strong> New Sahnewal in Punjab and extends up to New Sonnagar in Bihar, <\/strong>passing through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was<strong> <\/strong>completed in <strong>2023, i<\/strong>t connects <strong>coal-producing states and passes <\/strong>through <strong>regions rich in raw materials including iron ore, bauxite and coking coal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC)<\/strong> is around 1,506 km long.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It starts from <strong>New Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and runs up to New JNPT in Maharashtra,<\/strong> passing through Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The corridor connects major industrial areas with important logistics centres and ports, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Port area in Maharashtra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Dedicated Freight Corridor network<\/strong> is set to expand further with the announcement of <strong>a third DFC in the Union Budget.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The proposed 2,052-km-long corridor will start from <strong>Dankuni in West Bengal and connect to Surat in Gujarat.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The new DFC will connect six states:<\/strong> West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Major Features:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Double-stack Container Trains: <\/strong>One of the important changes brought by the DFC network is the movement of double-stack container trains.
