The distortion of the map is based on the fact that the surface of a globe cannot be represented on a<strong> two-dimensional chart.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Mercator map, the curvature of the Earth is accommodated by making countries near the equator seem smaller than they are and countries <strong>near the poles appear larger<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To address this distortion, the <strong>Equal Earth projection<\/strong> was developed in <strong>2018<\/strong>. The map was recently put before the <strong>United Nations by Togo<\/strong>, with support from African countries. GS3\/Economy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Vibrant Village Programme (VVP)<\/strong> is making the border communities active participants in India\u2019s growth via development of infrastructure, improvement of livelihood, and offering access to government schemes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was<strong> launched in 2023<\/strong>, and it seeks to speed up integrated development of targeted villages on the border with India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It aims to establish active, secure, and prosperous frontier towns and views the border people as the eyes and ears of the border-guiding forces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is being implemented through<strong> Village Action Plans<\/strong> with interventions customised to the needs of each border, state, and village.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is based on a convergence approach for optimum coverage of current government projects, while all-weather road connectivity is provided under PMGSY-IV.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The nodal ministry for coordination with the State Governments, district administrations and border guarding forces is the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Phases<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Government is implementing the Vibrant Villages Programme in two phases that together cover India&#8217;s entire international land border.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>VVP-I covers<\/strong> villages along the northern border.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>VVP-I is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented with the States,\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>VVP-II extends<\/strong> the same approach to the other international land borders.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>VVP-II is a Central Sector Scheme funded fully by the Centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"72a5cc\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"579\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-57.png\" alt=\"vibrant villages programme\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-83963\" style=\"--dominant-color: #72a5cc; It covered borrowers with outstanding loans above \u20b950 crore and up to \u20b9500 crore with days past due upto 60 days as on February 2020.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ECLGS 3.0<\/strong> extended support to the hospitality, travel &amp; tourism, leisure &amp; sporting and civil aviation sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ECLGS 4.0 <\/strong>focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure during the pandemic. It covered hospitals\/nursing homes\/clinics\/medical colleges\/ and manufacturers of liquid oxygen, oxygen cylinders etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ECLGS 5.0 is operational until <strong>31 March 2027<\/strong>, or until guarantees amounting to <strong>\u20b92.55 lakh crore are issued,<\/strong> whichever is earlier.
