focusing on advancing boundary delimitation and consolidating peace along the <strong>Line of Actual Control (LAC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Outcomes of the Dialogue<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Boundary Delimitation:<\/strong> India and China discussed ways to advance negotiations for delimiting certain portions of the disputed boundary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Revival of Institutional Mechanisms:<\/strong> India and China have been working hard to revive bilateral institutional mechanisms and dialogue platforms that were derailed by the border tensions that started in <strong>2020.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reaffirmation of the 2005 Framework:<\/strong> Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the <strong>2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for the Settlement of the India-China Boundary Question,<\/strong> which provides broad principles for pursuing a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Significance for India<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Border-related risks Progress<\/strong> on delimitation and improved border-management mechanisms can reduce the risk of unintended confrontations and escalation along the disputed boundary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strategic Stability: <\/strong>Stability in the relationship between India and China is also important for the maintenance of strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific and wider Asian region, particularly in view of the economic and geopolitical significance of the two countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Brief on India-China Relations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> Panchsheel Agreement, signed in 1954,<\/strong> emphasised the principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in each other\u2019s internal affairs, forming the foundation of India-China diplomatic relations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Historical Tensions:<\/strong> Strained since the <strong>1962 Sino-Indian war<\/strong>, deepened by recent clashes and mistrust.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2020, the clash between both armies in <strong>Galwan Valley<\/strong> further strained the relationship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India restricted Chinese investments, banned Chinese apps (e.g., TikTok), and halted flights to China.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trade Relations:<\/strong> In 2025, bilateral trade between China and India reached a record high of<strong> $155.6 billion<\/strong>, registering a year-on-year growth of over<strong> 12%. <\/strong>Despite tensions, economic ties continue to grow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ongoing Mechanisms:<\/strong> Despite tensions, mechanisms like the Special Representatives (SR) and <strong>Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC)<\/strong> have been in place to address the boundary issue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recent Developments:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2024 Disengagement:<\/strong> India and China announced successful disengagement in eastern Ladakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>October 2024 Meeting: <\/strong>PM Modi and President Xi Jinping emphasized \u201cmutual trust, mutual respect, and mutual sensitivity.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In 2025<\/strong> both Nations resumed direct flights and the Indian PM also visited China for the SCO summit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concerns&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Unresolved Boundary Dispute: <\/strong>India and China have not achieved a comprehensive settlement of their disputed boundary, despite several rounds of negotiations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Different Perceptions of the LAC: <\/strong>The lack of a mutually accepted demarcation of the LAC creates areas of differing perceptions of the territoriality and thus increases the chances of patrol confrontations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>China\u2013Pakistan Nexus:<\/strong> Increasing strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan especially through <strong>China\u2013Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)<\/strong>, a part of Belt and Road Initiative passing through the Indian territory of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trade Imbalance:<\/strong> India has a large trade deficit with China and relies heavily on China for imports in sectors like <strong>electronics, APIs (pharmaceuticals), telecom equipment and solar panels.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>China\u2019s growing presence in the Indian Ocean Region:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sri Lanka:<\/strong> China\u2019s presence at Hambantota Port and investments in an oil refinery cause concerns in India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nepal: <\/strong>China\u2019s infrastructure investments (<strong>Pokhara airport<\/strong>) threaten India\u2019s strategic position.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bangladesh: <\/strong>China\u2019s growing influence in loan agreements threatens India\u2019s regional influence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For India and China, incremental boundary delimitation, effective disengagement and de-escalation mechanisms, strengthened confidence-building measures and regular diplomatic and military communication are necessary to prevent the recurrence of border tensions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable boundary settlement, based on the previously agreed political principles and sustained dialogue, remains essential for
