{"id":81587,"date":"2026-08-13T18:16:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T12:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=81587"},"modified":"2026-08-13T18:16:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T12:46:47","slug":"ncdc-amendment-bill-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/13-08-2026\/ncdc-amendment-bill-2026","title":{"rendered":"LS Passed National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) (Amendment) Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recently, Parliament has passed the <strong>National Co-operative Development Corporation(NCDC) (Amendment) Bill, 2026.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Highlights of National Cooperative Development Corporation Bill<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Broader concept of co-operative development:<\/strong> NCDC would be able to arrange, promote and finance co-operative initiatives, directly or through intermediary entities, not simply co-operative societies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Direct loans and grants:<\/strong> NCDC may give direct loans and grants to cooperative societies and other qualifying bodies involved in cooperative development subject to security conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Investment in cooperatives<\/strong>: NCDC may, with the agreement of the Central Government, assume an interest in the share capital of cooperative societies and cooperative development agencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Broader range of assistance: <\/strong>\u201cFoodstuffs\u201d shall include processed foods and other foodstuffs.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Industrial objects would no longer be constrained by location &#8212; support would be provided regardless of location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>References to the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 1984 will be replaced by the 2002 Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New incidental powers<\/strong>: Section 9A would be inserted to give the power to the NCDC to do anything which is necessary or incidental to the accomplishment of its functions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Credit information powers<\/strong>: Proposed Section 13A would empower the NCDC to collect or furnish credit and other information to the Central Government, RBI, banks and registered financial institutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>State Government funding<\/strong>.
