They were referred to as the<strong> &#8220;Lal-Bal-Pal&#8221;.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The trio also mobilized Indians against the <strong>Bengal partition<\/strong> and proposed the <strong>Swadeshi movement<\/strong> and boycott of foreign goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>1908<\/strong>, Tilak was arrested on charges of sedition and sentenced to <strong>six years&#8217; imprisonment<\/strong> in <strong>Mandalay (Burma)<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>1916<\/strong>, he founded the <strong>Home Rule League<\/strong> at <strong>Belagavi<\/strong> to promote political awareness and mobilise support for self-rule. In the same year, he concluded the <strong>Lucknow Pact<\/strong> with <strong>Mohammed Ali Jinnah<\/strong>, which sought to promote <strong>Hindu-Muslim unity<\/strong> in the nationalist movement.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>He was conferred<\/strong> with the title of <strong>\u201cLokmanya\u201d<\/strong>, which means \u201caccepted by the people (as their leader)\u201d and\u00a0 Mahatma Gandhi called him \u201c<strong>The Maker of Modern India\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Literary Work<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He launched two weeklies, <strong>Kesari (in Marathi) <\/strong>and <strong>Mahratta (in English)<\/strong>, which criticized British policies of the time.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>His notable works include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Orion or Researches into the Antiquity of the Vedas (1893)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Arctic Home in the Vedas (1903).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Mandalay jail<\/strong>, he wrote the<strong> Srimad Bhagavadgita Rahasya (Secret of the Bhagavadgita)<\/strong>, an original Shekhar Azad on his birth anniversary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Chandra Shekhar Azad<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Born on <strong>23 July 1906<\/strong> in present-day <strong>Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>, Chandra Shekhar Azad grew up in poverty and joined the freedom struggle as a teenager during the <strong>Non-Cooperation Movement<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was Arrested for protest activities, he famously declared his name as &#8220;Azad&#8221; and vowed never to be captured alive.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Role in Freedom struggle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He joined the Hindustan Republican Army (HRA), later transforming it with Bhagat Singh into the more radical<strong> Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was involved in the <strong>1925 Kakori Train robbery<\/strong>, an attempt to blow up the <strong>India Viceroy\u2019s train<\/strong>, and the shooting of <strong>British police officer JP Saunders<\/strong> in 1928 to avenge the killing of the great freedom fighter, Lala Lajpat Rai.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After the Central Assembly bombing in 1929 and the subsequent British crackdown, Azad remained underground, trying to free Bhagat Singh.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Death and Legacy&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On February 27, 1931, surrounded by police in Allahabad\u2019s Alfred Park, he helped a comrade escape, killed three policemen, and, with only one bullet left, shot himself to avoid capture.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He died at just 24,
