{"id":79408,"date":"2026-07-16T18:11:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T12:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=79408"},"modified":"2026-07-16T18:12:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T12:42:21","slug":"india-skill-ecosystem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/16-07-2026\/india-skill-ecosystem","title":{"rendered":"Empowering India&#8217;s Skill Ecosystem\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/Economy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The renewed focus on skill development as a key driver of <strong>Viksit Bharat@2047<\/strong>, coupled with rapid technological change, has brought India&#8217;s skilling ecosystem to the fore.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Skill Development Matters?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s labour market is undergoing a structural shift due to automation, artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation, climate action and demographic changes.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The continuous skilling has therefore become mandatory for employability and economic competitiveness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Growth: <\/strong>Development of skills enhances productivity, spurs entrepreneurship, alleviates poverty and builds sustainable economic growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Future Ready Workforce:<\/strong> The<strong> IMF\u2019s AI Preparedness Index <\/strong>India scored 49.3, above the average of emerging economies (42.1), indicating preparedness to leverage AI-led opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leveraging Demographic Dividend:<\/strong> More than 54% of India\u2019s population is below 25 years and almost 62% of them are in the working age group, hence skilling is very important to leverage demographic dividend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Addressing Global Talent Needs:<\/strong> By 2030, India will produce a <strong>surplus of 45 million skilled professionals<\/strong>, and the world could experience a deficit of 85 million workers, creating significant global employment opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Skilling in India: Current Status<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India Skills Report 2026:<\/strong> Employability rises from 46% (2020) to 56.4% (2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skill development is embedded at all stages of the education-to-employment life cycle, from school education through vocational training, apprenticeships and digital learning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More emphasis is being placed on<strong> AI, emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, the involvement of women and training<\/strong> aligned with industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The hiring trend shows increasing demand for skilled professionals in IT, manufacturing, healthcare, tourism and electronics sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Related Efforts &amp;
