coastal security and surveillance capabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digital Connectivity: <\/strong>An agreement with the <strong>National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)<\/strong> will enable the rollout of <strong>Unified Payments Interface (UPI)<\/strong> in Seychelles, facilitating seamless digital payments and boosting tourism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capacity Building:<\/strong> Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in <strong>technical education, healthcare, agriculture, skill development, and space applications<\/strong> under the <strong>SESEL (Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages)<\/strong> framework.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blue Economy<\/strong>: Cooperation will focus on <strong>marine resource management, sustainable fisheries, ocean science, and the sustainable use of marine resources<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2013Seychelles Relations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Diplomatic Relations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Diplomatic ties were established in <strong>1976<\/strong>, after Seychelles gained independence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around <strong>10% of Seychelles&#8217; population is of Indian origin<\/strong>, strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Development Partnership:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has supported Seychelles through <strong>Lines of Credit, grant assistance, and High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cooperation spans <strong>infrastructure, housing, transport, education, healthcare, and capacity building<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>2026<\/strong>, India announced a <strong>USD 175 million Special Economic Package<\/strong> for Seychelles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both countries also adopted the <strong>SESEL Joint Vision<\/strong> to deepen cooperation in sustainability, economic growth, and security.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trade and Economy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bilateral trade (April 2024\u2013February 2025) stood at <strong>USD 72.92 million<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India&#8217;s exports:<\/strong> USD <strong>68.64 million<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>India&#8217;s imports:<\/strong> USD <strong>4.28 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Energy Cooperation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seychelles became a <strong>founding member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA)<\/strong> after ratifying its Framework Agreement in <strong>2017<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>2024<\/strong>, a <strong>solar-powered cold storage facility<\/strong> was commissioned on <strong>Praslin Island<\/strong> with ISA support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Multilateral Cooperation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both countries cooperate closely in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indian Ocean Commission (IOC)<\/strong> <em>(India is a Development Partner)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International Solar Alliance (ISA)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>People-to-People Ties:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Indian diaspora has played an important role in strengthening cultural exchanges, business relations, and long-standing goodwill between the two countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"f2f2f2\" data-has-transparency=\"true\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"874\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-232.png\" alt=\"seychelles important for india\" class=\"has-transparency wp-image-77996\" style=\"--dominant-color: #f2f2f2;
