{"id":77933,"date":"2026-06-27T18:09:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T12:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=77933"},"modified":"2026-06-27T18:21:53","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T12:51:53","slug":"news-in-short-27-06-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/27-06-2026\/news-in-short-27-06-2026","title":{"rendered":"News In Short 27-06-2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/ Health\/ Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The growing use of portable ultrasound devices has raised debate that the <strong>PCPNDT Act, 1994<\/strong> needs to be updated to support better healthcare access while preventing the misuse of ultrasound for illegal sex determination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the PCPNDT Act?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The PCPNDT Act was introduced in <strong>1994<\/strong> to <strong>curb prenatal sex determination<\/strong> and the <strong>selective abortion of female foetuses<\/strong> in response to a declining child sex ratio.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was <strong>amended in 2003<\/strong> to expand its scope from regulating prenatal diagnostic techniques to also prohibiting pre-conception sex selection through modern reproductive technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Punishment:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>First offence: <\/strong>Up to <strong>3 years<\/strong> imprisonment and fine up to <strong>\u20b910,000.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Subsequent offences: <\/strong>Up to <strong>5 years<\/strong> imprisonment and higher fines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical practitioners may <strong>face suspension or cancellation of registration <\/strong>by the State Medical Council.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Provisions of the Act<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Regulation of Diagnostic Techniques: <\/strong>Prenatal diagnostic techniques may be used only for detecting specific genetic or congenital abnormalities, chromosomal disorders, metabolic disorders, haemoglobinopathies, or sex-linked diseases.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Every genetic counselling centre, laboratory, clinic, ultrasound clinic, and imaging centre must be registered under the Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Restriction on Advertisements:<\/strong> Any advertisement promoting sex determination or sex selection services is prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Record Maintenance: <\/strong>Registered clinics must maintain prescribed records of every <strong>prenatal diagnostic procedure.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Failure to maintain records is treated as a violation under the Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/ccidist-ws\/th\/th_delhi\/issues\/191181\/OPS\/GB1G5P8MO.1+GGUG5R8FH.1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>TH<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>AIR SUVIDHA 2.0 Portal<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/ Health\/ Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) launched Air Suvidha 2.0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Air Suvidha 2.0 Portal&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is an upgraded <strong>contactless Passenger Health Self-Declaration Portal<\/strong>, to strengthen public health surveillance at Points of Entry.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The launch follows the<strong> WHO&#8217;s declaration of the Ebola\/Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak <\/strong>in the <strong>Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) <\/strong>and <strong>Uganda<\/strong> as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developed in collaboration with the <strong>Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health &amp;
