These devices may contain;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hidden vulnerabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unauthorised data-sharing mechanisms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Malicious software or embedded backdoors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weak Procurement Practices: <\/strong>Government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) often rely on<strong> template-based compliance<\/strong> checks during procurement.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tender conditions do not always insist on trusted indigenous technologies or detailed security audits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inadequate Security Certification:<\/strong> Security certification mechanisms are not uniformly enforced for many IoT devices used in critical infrastructure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Global Incidents Highlighting Risks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack: <\/strong>The ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline in the United States disrupted fuel supplies and demonstrated how cyberattacks on critical infrastructure can create large-scale economic and social disruption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Attacks on Gas Station Monitoring Systems:<\/strong> Recently, cyber intrusions targeting Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) systems at gas stations in multiple U.S. states exposed vulnerabilities in internet-connected fuel monitoring infrastructure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s Critical Infrastructure Protection Ecosystem<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In):<\/strong> CERT-In functions as the national nodal agency for responding to cyber-security incidents.
