Meeting.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Major Highlights<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Quad partners launched the<strong> first-ever Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Collaboration (IPMSC) initiative.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The programme aims to<strong> enhance maritime domain awareness and information sharing in the Indo-Pacific, <\/strong>with an initial focus on the Indian Ocean Region through surveillance cooperation, expert exchanges and tabletop exercises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The four nations also expanded the <strong>Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) initiative<\/strong> and announced plans to develop a comprehensive Common Operating Picture (COP) to improve real-time maritime information sharing across the region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Counter-terrorism cooperation:<\/strong> Australia will host a <strong>Quad Counterterrorism Tabletop Exercise in June 2026<\/strong> focusing on state-sponsored terrorism threats and the misuse of unmanned aerial vehicles and emerging technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Critical Minerals:<\/strong> <strong>Quad Critical Minerals Initiative Framework<\/strong> was unveiled aimed at strengthening resilient and diversified supply chains for critical minerals through coordinated investments, mining, processing and recycling cooperation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Energy Resilience:<\/strong> <strong>Quad Initiative on Indo-Pacific Energy Security<\/strong> will focus on cooperation in energy technology, policy, market analysis and emergency response exercises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Infrastructure Cooperation: <\/strong>It announced plans to work with the Government of Fiji on port infrastructure development following discussions under the Quad Ports of the Future Partnership initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Under the AI-ENGAGE initiative<\/strong>, the Quad partners announced more than USD 6 million in funding for six international research projects focused on improving crop yields, pest management and food security using artificial intelligence, robotics and sensing technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>India will host the next edition of the Quad-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission <\/strong>to strengthen interoperability and coordination in addressing unlawful maritime activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is an<strong> informal multilateral grouping<\/strong> of <strong>India, the U.S., Australia, and Japan <\/strong>aimed at cooperation for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Origin: <\/strong>The Quad began as a loose partnership after the <strong>2004 Indian Ocean tsunami<\/strong> when the four countries joined together to provide humanitarian and disaster assistance to the affected region.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was formalized by former Japanese Prime Minister <strong>Shinzo Abe in 2007<\/strong>, but then fell dormant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After a decade it was <strong>resurrected in 2017,<\/strong> reflecting changing attitudes in the region toward China&#8217;s growing influence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strategic Significance of Quad<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Act East policy:<\/strong> India\u2019s participation in the Quad emphasizing deeper engagement with East Asian nations and strengthening maritime security cooperation.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Military cooperation:<\/strong> It provides a platform for military cooperation, intelligence sharing, and joint exercises aimed at maintaining maritime security and ensuring the rule of law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Counterbalancing China\u2019s Influence:<\/strong> QUAD is crucial for India\u2019s interests in safeguarding its maritime trade routes and ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India has supported a<strong> rule-based multipolar world<\/strong> and QUAD can help it in achieving its ambition of becoming a regional superpower.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ddindia.co.in\/2026\/05\/fact-sheet-quad-unveils-major-indo-pacific-initiatives-on-maritime-security-critical-minerals-and-emerging-technologies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DD<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong> Context <\/strong><\/p>\n<li class=\"ms-5\"> The Foreign Ministers of Australia, India, Japan and the Secretary of State of the United States met in New Delhi, for the 11th Quad Foreign Ministers&#8217;
