shape their own destiny during the inauguration of NIBE Group\u2019s Defence Manufacturing Complex at Shirdi in Maharashtra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the Event<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Defence Manufacturing Complex: <\/strong>The facility will manufacture advanced artillery systems, missile and space technologies, rocket systems, energetic materials, and autonomous defence platforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Suryastra Rocket System:\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India\u2019s first <strong>300-km Universal Rocket Launching System,<\/strong> named <strong>\u201cSuryastra,\u201d <\/strong>was flagged off during the event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The foundation stone for a <strong>dedicated missile complex<\/strong> related to the system was also laid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indigenous Technologies Unveiled:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Indigenous TNT Plant Technology <\/strong>was unveiled during the ceremony.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indigenous RDX Plant Technology<\/strong> was also introduced.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A Renewable Bio-Energy Compressed Biogas Plant<\/strong> was unveiled as part of the initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An MoU <\/strong>was exchanged between <strong>NIBE Group and Black Sky<\/strong> for cooperation in satellite assembly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Defence Production in India<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sectoral Contribution:<\/strong> In FY 2024-25, defence public sector undertakings<strong> (DPSUs) <\/strong>accounted for <strong>57.50% <\/strong>of the total defence production, while <strong>Indian ordnance factories contributed 14.49%<\/strong>, and non-defence PSUs 5.4%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defence Budget Growth:<\/strong> Increased from \u20b92.53 lakh crore in 2013-14 to \u20b96.81 lakh crore in 2025-26.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In 2024-25<\/strong>, India achieved its highest-ever defence production of <strong>\u20b91.50 lakh crore, <\/strong>more than three times the \u20b946,429 crore recorded in 2014-15.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Surge in Indigenous Defence Production: <\/strong>65% of defence equipment is now manufactured domestically, a significant shift from the earlier 65-70% import dependency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India targets<strong> \u20b93 lakh crore<\/strong> in defence production by powers for critical military hardware, preserving a <strong>nation&#8217;s sovereign foreign policy and freedom of action <\/strong>without facing geopolitical pressure or sanctions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Operational Security: <\/strong>Protects sensitive military infrastructure and command systems from foreign-controlled technology <strong>(e.g., GPS or foreign software dependencies),<\/strong> ensuring uninterrupted, secure operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tailored Defence: <\/strong>Allows militaries to design and procure platforms (such as artillery and missiles) specifically customized to their <strong>unique terrain, strategic threats, and combat doctrines.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Growth: <\/strong>Drives heavy domestic class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Measures to Promote Defence Manufacturing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Defence Industrial Corridors &amp; Indigenous Production Push: <\/strong>Two defence industrial corridors have been established in<strong> Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh<\/strong> to bolster its defence manufacturing ecosystem and promote domestic defence production.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Government schemes such as <strong>iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence)<\/strong> and <strong>DTIS (Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme)<\/strong> to enable innovation within the Defence &amp; Aerospace ecosystem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Self-Reliant Initiatives through Joint Action (SRIJAN): <\/strong>Launched by the Department of Defence Production (DDP) in 2020 to promote indigenisation under Atmanirbhar Bharat.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Serves as a common platform for Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and the Armed Forces (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951,<\/strong> has been extended from three years to <strong>15 years,<\/strong> with a further extension option of up to 18 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020: <\/strong>It promotes indigenous design, development &amp; manufacturing, prioritises \u201cMake in India\u201d categories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the Challenges?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India continues to <strong>depend on imports<\/strong> for several <strong>advanced defence technologies <\/strong>and critical components.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research and development expenditure<\/strong> in the defence sector remains comparatively limited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technological gaps<\/strong> exist in areas such as jet engines, semiconductors, cyber warfare, and advanced sensors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Private sector participation<\/strong> still faces regulatory and procurement-related challenges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Achieving global competitiveness in defence exports requires<strong> sustained investment and quality assurance mechanisms.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India should <strong>strengthen indigenous research and development capabilities<\/strong> in emerging defence technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greater collaboration
