This heats the land surface rapidly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Availability of Moisture: <\/strong>Moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal move towards northern India through southeasterly winds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cool and Dry Upper Air: <\/strong>Western Disturbances bring cooler air in the upper atmosphere. It impacts farmer incomes and rural livelihoods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Disruption of Public Services: <\/strong>Power outages, communication disruption, and transport interruptions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increased Disaster Vulnerability: <\/strong>Rapid urbanization, weak housing structures and inadequate awareness increase vulnerability to such localized disasters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Challenges in Forecasting: <\/strong>Evacuation is difficult because thunderstorms are dispersed and unpredictable in movement, unlike cyclones.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Localized Nature: <\/strong>Thunderstorms are highly localized and evolve rapidly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rapid Intensification: <\/strong>Wind speeds can intensify within minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multiple Storm Cells: <\/strong>Several storms can occur simultaneously across different districts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>Do You Know<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thunderstorms and lightning are <strong>not currently among the 12 nationally notified disasters<\/strong> eligible for automatic financial compensation under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) or National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, states have the flexibility to utilize up to 10% of their SDRF allocation for local disasters, such as lightning and thunderstorms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nationally Notified Disasters In India<\/strong>: Cyclone, Drought, Earthquake, Fire, Flood, Tsunami, Hailstorm, Landslide, Avalanche, Cloudburst, Pest attack, Frost and cold wave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Measures and Policy Support<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>IMD\u2019s Early Warning Systems: <\/strong>IMD regularly issues weather bulletins, thunderstorm alerts, and nowcasts (short-term forecasts).
