India backed Vietnam during reconstruction after the war.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2007:<\/strong> Strategic Partnership established;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2016: <\/strong>Relations upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2026:<\/strong> Elevated to Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vietnam was the first ASEAN country with which India established a Strategic Partnership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Highlights of the 2026 Visit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Trade and Economic Cooperation: <\/strong>Trade doubled in the last decade to <strong>$16 billion<\/strong>; and it sets a new target of <strong>$25 billion by 2030.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Agricultural Access: <\/strong>India to export grapes and pomegranates; and Vietnam to export Durian and Pomelo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Signed Agreements: <\/strong>The two countries signed <strong>11 agreements<\/strong> covering rare earth cooperation, cultural exchange, manuscript preservation, digital payments, and urban governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defence and Security Cooperation<\/strong>: Major areas of cooperation include joint military exercises, maritime security, defence industry collaboration, joint research and co-production, hydrography cooperation, naval port calls, air force engagements, search and rescue operations.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>MAHASAGAR Vision: <\/strong>Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indo-Pacific and South China Sea: <\/strong>Both countries emphasized freedom of navigation, peaceful resolution of disputes, adherence to international law, and UNCLOS 1982 compliance.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The joint statement indirectly referred to China\u2019s aggressive posture by stressing non-militarization, self-restraint, and rules-based maritime order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Significance of India\u2013Vietnam Relations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Strategic Convergence in Indo-Pacific: <\/strong>Both support a <strong>free, open, inclusive Indo-Pacific<\/strong>; and shared concerns regarding Chinese assertiveness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maritime Cooperation: <\/strong>Cooperation in blue economy, maritime domain awareness, and naval engagements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defence Partnership: <\/strong>Vietnam is one of India\u2019s strongest defence partners in ASEAN.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India supports training of Vietnamese armed forces, defence credit lines, and indigenous defence exports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Complementarity:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India: pharmaceuticals, IT, agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vietnam: electronics, manufacturing, supply-chain integration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ASEAN Centrality: <\/strong>Vietnam acts as a bridge between India and ASEAN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Related Challenges and Concerns<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>China Factor: <\/strong>Chinese assertiveness in the South China Sea creates regional tensions.
