grouping and MENA (Middle East and North Africa)<\/strong> expressed \u201cdeep concern\u201d about the U.S.-Israel war against Iran.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About BRICS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>BRICS <\/strong>is an acronym that refers to a group of <strong>five major emerging<\/strong><strong>national economies:<\/strong><strong>Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates <\/strong>have joined BRICS as new full members <strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BRICS represents around<strong> 41%<\/strong> of the global population, around<strong> 24% <\/strong>of the global GDP and around <strong>16% o<\/strong>f global trade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong> As a formal grouping, BRIC started after the meeting of the Leaders of Russia, India and China in St. Petersburg on the margins of the <strong>G8 Outreach Summit in 2006.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The term was originally coined by economist <strong>Jim O&#8217;Neill in 2001.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The grouping was formalized during the 1st meeting of BRIC Foreign Ministers on the margins of <strong>UNGA in New York in 2006.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initially, the grouping was termed BRIC as <strong>South Africa was inducted in 2010 <\/strong>and from there on it has been referred to as <strong>BRICS<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BRICS countries have come together to deliberate on important issues under the<strong> three pillars of:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>political and security,\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>economic and financial and\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cultural and people-to-people exchanges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Summits:<\/strong> The governments of the BRICS states have met annually at formal summits <strong>since 2009.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decision Making: <\/strong>All decisions are taken by BRICS member states in full consultation and consensus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New Development Bank:<\/strong> Formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank, is a multilateral development bank established by the BRICS states.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Bank shall support public or private projects through loans, guarantees, equity participation and other financial instruments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>MENA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MENA stands for the <strong>Middle East and Northern Africa,<\/strong> referring to the countries between Iran in the East and Tunisia and Morocco in the West.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is pivotal due to its <strong>vast oil and natural gas reserves, <\/strong>holding more than half of the world&#8217;s oil reserves and two-fifths of its natural gas reserves.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This makes MENA a <strong>crucial player in the energy markets<\/strong> and offers significant investment opportunities, particularly in the oil and natural gas rupees for the Maldives under the SAARC Currency Swap Framework,<\/strong> reinforcing its ongoing financial support to the island nation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SAARC Currency Swap Framework<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a recognised <strong>bilateral swap arrangement<\/strong> in the Global Financial Safety Net.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It aims to<strong> further strengthen India\u2019s ties with SAARC Countries<\/strong> and promote regional integration and inter-dependence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Framework is in place<strong> since 2012<\/strong> to provide SAARC countries a line of funding for short-term foreign exchange requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SAARC<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established with the signing of the<strong> SAARC Charter in Dhaka in 1985.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SAARC comprises eight Member States:<\/strong> Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan,
