It ensures <strong>inclusive development<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prevention of Long-term Risks: <\/strong>Lack of early care leads to poor mental health, low educational attainment, higher crime and unemployment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Global Framework Supporting Early Childhood Development<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>WHO \u2013 UNICEF \u2013 World Bank Nurturing Care Framework<\/strong> highlights 5 essentials i.e. good health, adequate nutrition, responsive caregiving, safety and security, and early Policy Shift: Strengthening Early Systems<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India is increasingly recognising <strong>early childhood development <\/strong>as a <strong>governance priority<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Anganwadi Centres (ICDS)<\/strong> are being repositioned as early learning hubs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initiatives like <strong>ECCE kits (e.g., Uttar Pradesh)<\/strong> aim to integrate play-based learning into frontline systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Policy emphasis aligns with <strong>NEP 2020<\/strong>, which prioritises <strong>Foundational Literacy and Numeracy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrating <strong>early childhood development <\/strong>into frontline delivery systems improves both <strong>access and effectiveness<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Efforts by India Related to Early Childhood Development<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), 1975: <\/strong>World\u2019s largest ECD programme delivered via <strong>~13.7 lakh Anganwadi Centres.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It provides supplementary nutrition, immunisation, health check-ups, referral services, and pre-school (non-formal education).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It acts as the <strong>backbone of India\u2019s ECD framework<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Anganwadi System: <\/strong>Community-based centres for <strong>last-mile service delivery. <\/strong>It focuses on early learning, nutrition, maternal and child care.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Recent reforms include <\/strong>upgradation to <strong>\u2018Saksham Anganwadi\u2019, <\/strong>digitisation through <strong>POSHAN Tracker, <\/strong>and infrastructure strengthening.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>POSHAN Abhiyaan, 2018:<\/strong> To reduce stunting, undernutrition, and anaemia, and to promote <strong>convergence across ministries.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Recent innovations <\/strong>include real-time monitoring (ICT-based tools), and behavioural change campaigns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Saksham Anganwadi &amp; POSHAN 2.0<\/strong>: Key components include strengthening Anganwadi Yojana (JSY)<\/strong> to promote institutional deliveries, <strong>Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) <\/strong>for maternity benefits for nutrition &amp; rest, and <strong>Rashtriya Bal
