On May 11, 1888, he was bestowed with the title of <strong>Mahatma<\/strong> by a Maharashtrian social activist Vithalrao Krishnaji Vandekar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ideology and influence: <\/strong>His ideology centered around <strong>liberty, egalitarianism, and socialism<\/strong>. He drew inspiration from <strong>Thomas Paine&#8217;s<\/strong> book <em>The Rights of Man<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Marriage: <\/strong>He was married off when he was only 13 with <strong>Savitribai<\/strong>.
