aspect-ratio:0.9847235959995604;width:308px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-45.png 966w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-45-295x300.png 295w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-45-768x780.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 966px) 100vw, 966px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Currently India has over 3600 Deep Tech startups, with over 480 being established in 2023 itself.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Significance of India\u2019s Deep-Tech Ambitions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Global Leadership:<\/strong> It positions India as a trusted R&amp;D hub in the global landscape, leveraging its massive STEM talent pool to lead in frontier technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technological Sovereignty: <\/strong>Reduces critical reliance on foreign imports for national security, defense, and space, ensuring India isn&#8217;t vulnerable to global supply chain disruptions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Solving Local Challenges:<\/strong> Enables <strong>India-first<\/strong> solutions for massive social hurdles, such as AI for rural healthcare, precision agriculture for food security, and green hydrogen for energy independence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Value:<\/strong> A robust deep-tech ecosystem enables India to move up the global value chain, shifting from <strong>low-cost services and assembly-based manufacturing to high-value research,<\/strong> design and intellectual property creation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deep tech often requires <strong>large upfront investment<\/strong> and<strong> long development <\/strong>timelines, making it less attractive to traditional venture capital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited access to specialised labs, <\/strong>supercomputing and testing facilities slows innovation.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>shortage of specialised research talent <\/strong>and relatively low industry\u2011linked R&amp;D spending compared with global peers hinder progress.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deep tech solutions often face<strong> regulatory and adoption barriers <\/strong>that delay commercialisation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Initiatives<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Draft National Deep Tech Startup Policy (NDTSP)<\/strong> is strategically formulated to stimulate innovation, spur economic growth, and promote societal development through the effective utilization of deep tech research-driven innovations.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This policy aims to significantly strengthen India&#8217;s capabilities and enhance global competitiveness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IndiaAI Mission (2024): <\/strong>It has a budget\u00a0 of \u20b910,300 crore over five years.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A key goal is the creation of a high-end common computing facility with 18,693 GPUs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e8ebf0\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"542\" height=\"412\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-44.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-71016\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e8ebf0;
