Environment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As per the World Economic Forum, India is positioning itself as a <strong>global electro-tech manufacturing hub<\/strong> by leveraging <strong>low-cost solar energy and battery technology <\/strong>bypassing the fossil fuel-heavy growth model followed by Western economies and China.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Major Highlights&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India\u2019s push for energy sovereignty<\/strong> could serve as a fast-track model for emerging economies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In India <strong>solar energy accounts for about 9% of electricity, <\/strong>coal use per capita is far lower than China\u2019s at a similar stage.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electric Vehicles: <\/strong>Passenger electric vehicles nearing 5% of total sales, while electric three-wheelers account for nearly 60% of the market, making India a global leader in the segment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India has reached about <strong>1,500 kWh per capita electricity consumption,<\/strong> solar-plus-storage now costs roughly half as much as new coal.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India\u2019s <strong>electronics sector has grown six-fold<\/strong> to 130 billion dollars, supporting expansion into solar panels, batteries and EVs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s Electronic Sector<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"c1e3f1\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #c1e3f1;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"541\" height=\"310\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-70708\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-11.png 541w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-11-300x172.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 541px) 100vw, 541px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India is the <strong>second largest mobile phone producer <\/strong>in the world.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has achieved near self-reliance in mobile production- from importing 78% of its requirements in 2014\u201315 to manufacturing almost all devices domestically today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Top 5 export destinations for Indian electronic goods in FY 2024\u201325<\/strong> are the United States, United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electronics manufacturing created <strong>25 lakh jobs in the last 10 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>India&#8217;s semiconductor ecosystem<\/strong> has gained significant momentum, with five landmark projects receiving approval with a total combined investment nearing Rs 1.52 lakh crores.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Future Projections:<\/strong> It indicates that India\u2019s electronics production will reach <strong>USD 300 billion by 2026.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>Clean Energy in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>As of 2025, <\/strong>the country\u2019s total installed electricity capacity has crossed <strong>500 GW, reaching 500.89 GW.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e7ebee\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e7ebee;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"290\" height=\"290\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-12.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-70711\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-12.png 290w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-12-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Non-fossil fuel sources (renewable energy, hydro, and nuclear):<\/strong> 256.09 GW \u2013 over 51 % of the total.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fossil-fuel-based sources:<\/strong> 244.80 GW, about<strong> 49 % of the total, <\/strong>making coal a source of up to almost half the energy needs. Also, coal contributes about<strong> 74% of total electricity production in India.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Within renewables:<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Solar power:<\/strong> 127.33 GW.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wind power:<\/strong> 53.12 GW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>During FY 2025\u201326<\/strong> India added 28 GW of non-fossil capacity and 5.1 GW of fossil-fuel capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Initiatives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Make in India: Launched in 2014, <\/strong>aimed at boosting India&#8217;s manufacturing sector and economic growth.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transform India into a global hub for design and manufacturing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP): <\/strong>Launched in 2017, aimed to promote domestic value addition in mobile phones and their parts.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased investment and set up significant manufacturing capacities in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme: <\/strong>Introduced in 2020, aimed to boost domestic manufacturing in mobile phones, electronic components, and semiconductor packaging.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Incentives: <\/strong>3% to 6% on incremental sales (over base year) for eligible companies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Duration: 5 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"bcb5b1\" data-has-transparency=\"true\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"534\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"has-transparency wp-image-70707\" style=\"--dominant-color: #bcb5b1; width:471px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-10.png 534w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-10-300x207.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Semicon India Program: <\/strong>Launched in 2021, it is structured to promote the domestic semiconductor industry through incentives and strategic partnerships.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At Global Investors Summit 2025, it was announced that India\u2019s first indigenous semiconductor chip will be ready for production by 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS): <\/strong>The scheme will provide financial incentive of 25% on capital expenditure for the identified list of electronic goods that comprise downstream value chain of electronic products.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme: <\/strong>The Union Cabinet chaired by the PM approved the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme with a funding of Rs.22,919 crore to make India Atmanirbhar in the electronics supply chain.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tenure of six years with a one-year gestation period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expected Outcomes:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attract an investment of Rs.59,350 crore.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Result in production of Rs.4,56,500 crore.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate 91,600 direct jobs and numerous indirect jobs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emerging Technologies &amp; Projects: <\/strong>Support for Battery Storage, hybrid systems, and RTC power.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promotion of offshore wind and floating solar projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus on Hydrogen Mission for green hydrogen development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International Partnerships: <\/strong>ISA (International Solar Alliance) launched by India to promote global solar cooperation.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collaboration with countries &amp;
