class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strategic Significance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The river lies close to the <strong>Blue Line (UN-recognised boundary between Lebanon and Israel)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Israel considers the area <strong>south of the Litani River<\/strong> as a vital <strong>buffer zone (protective security belt)<\/strong> against <strong>Hezbollah rocket attacks and cross-border infiltration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Link with UNSC Resolution 1701<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After the <strong>2006 Lebanon War<\/strong>, the <strong>United Nations Security Council<\/strong> adopted <strong>Resolution 1701<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It required that the area between the <strong>Blue Line and the Litani River<\/strong> remain free of <strong>armed personnel &amp; weapons and military
