{"id":67857,"date":"2026-02-28T20:34:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T15:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=67857"},"modified":"2026-02-28T21:03:52","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T15:33:52","slug":"ai-gender-empowerment-casebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/28-02-2026\/ai-gender-empowerment-casebook","title":{"rendered":"Casebook on AI and Gender Empowerment\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS1\/Women Empowerment; GS3\/Science and Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> Casebook on AI and Gender Empowerment <\/strong>was launched at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Developed By: <\/strong>IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in partnership with UN Women and supported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The casebook brings together<strong> 23 real-world AI solutions<\/strong> from across the Global South that <strong>demonstrate measurable impact on gender equality and women&#8217;s empowerment.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The featured solutions span critical sectors including:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Healthcare including menstrual health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic empowerment and financial inclusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital safety and prevention of technology-facilitated gender-based violence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Climate resilience and sustainable agriculture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to justice and legal services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education and skills development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Major Initiatives Highlighted<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NyayaSakhi-SWATI: NyayaSakhi-SWATI<\/strong> is <strong>India\u2019s first large language model<\/strong> and retrieval-augmented generation-powered decision-support assistant<strong> for domestic violence survivors.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It provides estimates of<strong> likely statutory reliefs and approximate case duration, <\/strong>enabling safer, more informed and financially realistic decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It supports domestic violence survivors in <strong>understanding potential legal outcomes before filing a case.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is deployed in India, with an <strong>initial focus on Maharashtra, <\/strong>serving women from low-income and marginalized communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HELPSTiR is an AI-powered platform<\/strong> that enables civil society actors to raise <strong>hyperlocal help requests on behalf of vulnerable women<\/strong> and children and automatically match them with nearby local NGOs, shelters, healthcare providers and welfare linkage organizations.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By removing digital access barriers, the system accelerates <strong>gender-responsive benefits delivery across multiple domains.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is currently at the pilot stage of deployment, and is being implemented in Delhi with future prospects for expansion to Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>YASHODA AI<\/strong> is a human-centered, blended AI solution that combines accessible AI tools with facilitated, in-person learning to<strong> support women\u2019s digital safety and understanding of AI-enabled risks.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The system functions primarily as a learning and decision-support mechanism, designed to build awareness and confidence rather than to automate decision-making or enforcement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Following pilot development 5,500 women across 29 cities in 12 Indian states and 4 Union Territories were served by Yashoda AI.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Need for Such Initiatives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bridging the Gender Digital Divide: <\/strong>Women face lower digital access, skills, and online safety. AI tools like YASHODA AI address digital literacy and cyber-risk awareness gaps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improving Access to Justice and Welfare:<\/strong> Survivors of domestic violence and vulnerable women often lack legal clarity and service access. Tools like NyayaSakhi\u2013SWATI and HELPSTiR reduce information asymmetry and last-mile exclusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Addressing Algorithmic Bias:<\/strong> AI systems can produce gender bias.
