{"id":65413,"date":"2026-01-29T18:22:27","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T12:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=65413"},"modified":"2026-01-30T12:56:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T07:26:20","slug":"news-in-short-29-01-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/29-01-2026\/news-in-short-29-01-2026","title":{"rendered":"News In Short 29-01-2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Lala Lajpat Rai<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS1\/History&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Prime Minister paid tributes to Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Lajpat Rai<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He was a lawyer, journalist, and freedom fighter.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was born on 28 January, 1865&nbsp; in a Punjabi Hindu family in Dhudike.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1886, Lala Lajpat Rai moved to Hisar, practiced law, co-founded the Hisar Bar Council, and established the district branches of the Indian National Congress and Arya Samaj.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He also contributed to newspapers like The Tribune and helped Mahatma Hansraj found the Dayananda Anglo-Vedic School in Lahore.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1914, he left law to fully dedicate himself to India\u2019s freedom struggle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was elected President of the Indian National Congress in the Calcutta Special Session of 1920.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1921, he founded <strong>Servants of the People Society, <\/strong>a non-profit welfare organization.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He also founded the Punjab National Bank and&nbsp; the Lakshmi Insurance Company&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Literary works&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He was a prolific writer and authored several works like \u2013 \u201cUnhappy India\u201d, \u201cYoung India: An Interpretation\u201d, \u201cHistory of Arya Samaj\u201d, \u201cEngland\u2019s Debt to India\u201d and a series of popular biographies on Mazzini, Garibaldi and Swami Dayanand.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Philosophy&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He was of the view that Hindu society needed to fight its own battle with caste system, position of women and untouchability.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He believed that everyone should be allowed to read and learn from the Vedas irrespective of one\u2019s caste or gender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Death&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On 30 October 1928, Lala Lajpat Rai led a non-violent protest in Lahore against the Simon Commission.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was brutally beaten by police superintendent James A. Scott and later succumbed to his injuries on 17 November 1928.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legacy&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He led protests against injustices like the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and championed unity within Hindu society while advocating social reforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He offered everything he had to liberate the coastal districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has its <strong>own script<\/strong> and is one of only five literary <strong>Dravidian languages<\/strong>, the other four being Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The language is gaining global recognition, with <strong>academic research in Germany and France<\/strong>, and inclusion in <strong>Article 108<\/strong> of the Indian Constitution provides a constitutional mechanism for resolving legislative deadlocks between the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha regarding ordinary bills.<br>&#8211; <strong>A deadlock is deemed to have taken place<\/strong> under any one of the following three situations after a bill has been passed by one House and transmitted to the other House:<br>a. if the <strong>bill is rejected by the other House;&nbsp;<\/strong><br>b. if the<strong> Houses have finally disagreed<\/strong> as to the amendments to be made in the bill;
