{"id":62708,"date":"2025-12-27T18:05:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T12:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=62708"},"modified":"2025-12-28T00:03:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T18:33:21","slug":"birth-anniversary-guru-gobind-singh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/27-12-2025\/birth-anniversary-guru-gobind-singh","title":{"rendered":"Birth Anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS1\/History&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Guru Gobind Singh Ji on the auspicious occasion of his birth anniversary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Guru Gobind Singh<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He was Born on December 22, 1666, in Patna Sahib, Bihar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was a renowned warrior, poet, philosopher, and the last of the ten Sikh Gurus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He succeeded his father, Guru Teg Bahadur, the 9th Guru, who was executed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for standing up against religious persecution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contributions&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Guru Gobind Singh is perhaps best known for founding the <strong>Khalsa <\/strong>in 1699, a warrior community devoted to protecting the faith and upholding justice.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Khalsa\u2019s five guiding principles, symbolized by the \u201cFive K\u2019s\u201d (Kangha, Kesh, Kara, Kirpan, and Kachhera), remain central to Sikh identity today.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He also introduced a <strong>strict code of discipline<\/strong> for the Khalsa, including the prohibition of chewing tobacco, eating halal meat, and engaging in adultery or fornication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He established the <strong>Panj Pyare <\/strong>to symbolize purity, courage, and dedication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Literary works&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Guru Gobind Singh has contributed many beautiful hymns and prayers to the holy scripture of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These hymns, known as Shabad, are recited and sung during Sangats, or gatherings, with fellow believers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He declared the Holy Scriptures of Guru Granth Sahib as the permanent Guru of Sikhs.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He added the writings of <strong>Guru Teg Bahadur into the \u2018Adi Granth<\/strong>\u2019.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>His works possess a sublime poetic beauty; they were later compiled into the \u2018dasm granth\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Values and Leadership<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He displayed courage, compassion, and commitment to justice from childhood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He believed strong character is essential to withstand adversity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was an exceptional strategist, administrator, and leader of the masses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He believed in protecting human rights, even through armed resistance when peaceful means failed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Military Prowess<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He supported oppressed communities like Kashmiri Pandits against Mughal oppression.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He Fought numerous battles, e.g., Anandpur Sahib, Bhangani, Chamkaur Sahib.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He gained support across society and inspired even enemies to respect him.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legacy and Influence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Guru Gobind Singh Ji\u2019s life and teachings continue to inspire unity, service to humanity, national integrity and the principle of \u201cNation First.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was Praised by Swami Vivekananda for courage, self-sacrifice, and heroism.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He Unified Hindus and Muslims under common principles of justice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background has-fixed-layout\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Do you know ?<\/strong><br>&#8211;
