Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>GlowCas9 <\/strong>is a newly engineered variant of the <strong>CRISPR Cas9 enzyme<\/strong> that emits light while<strong> editing DNA<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>GlowCas9 is a bioluminescent Cas9 <\/strong>created at the Bose Institute, Kolkata, by fusing Cas9 with a split <strong>nano\u2011luciferase enzyme <\/strong>derived from deep\u2011sea shrimp proteins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CRISPR uses a guide RNA to direct the Cas9 enzyme to a specific DNA sequence.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cas9 makes a precise cut, enabling gene correction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bioluminescent Cas9<\/strong> opens a new direction for \u201ctheratracking\u201d \u2013 simultaneously performing therapy and tracking it at the molecular level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: AIR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>CITES Conference of the Parties (CoP20)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/ Environment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The 20th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP20) to the <strong>Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) <\/strong>has concluded in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, marking the <strong>50th anniversary of the Convention.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About CITES<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Overview:<\/strong> CITES <strong>(the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)<\/strong> is an international agreement between governments.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>\u00a0To ensure that<strong> international trade<\/strong> in specimens of wild animals and plants <strong>does not threaten the survival of the species.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>History:<\/strong> CITES was drafted as a result of a resolution adopted in 1963 at a meeting of members of IUCN (The World Conservation Union).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The text of the Convention was agreed in 1973, and came into force in\u00a0 <strong>1975.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CITES lists species in three appendices based on the level of protection required:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Appendix I: <\/strong>Species threatened with extinction and Commercial trade is strictly prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Appendix II: <\/strong>Species are not necessarily threatened with extinction but may become so if trade is not regulated.
