{"id":60178,"date":"2025-11-29T18:55:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T13:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=60178"},"modified":"2025-12-01T15:02:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T09:32:30","slug":"india-us-defence-deal-strategic-relations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/29-11-2025\/india-us-defence-deal-strategic-relations","title":{"rendered":"India\u2013US Defence Deal &amp; Strategic Relations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2(IR)\/GS3\/Defence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has finalized a \u20b97,995-crore follow-on support deal with the U.S. for its fleet of 24 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, ensuring five years of sustained maintenance and supply.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>MH-60R Seahawk helicopters<\/strong><br>&#8211; MH-60R, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation, is an all-weather helicopter designed to support multiple missions with state of the art avionics and sensors.<br>&#8211; The MH-60R Seahawk is a maritime variant of the Blackhawk helicopter.<br>&#8211; India had signed an agreement with the U.S. for procurement of 24 MH-60Rs in February 2020.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2013US Defence Partnership&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India-US defence cooperation is based on \u201cNew Framework for IndiaUS Defence Cooperation\u201d, which was renewed for ten years in 2015.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2016, the defence relationship was designated as a Major Defence Partnership (MDP).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Defence cooperation is multifaceted and includes regular institutionalized bilateral dialogue, military exercises, and defence procurements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The recent agreements underscoring a shared commitment to security, technology transfer, and regional stability.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Developments<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Important defence agreements which provide the framework for interaction and cooperation are:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (2016); Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (2018); Industrial Security Agreement (2019); and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (2020) and Memorandum of Intent for Defense Innovation Cooperation (2018); Security of Supplies Arrangement (SOSA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Military-to-military ties are robust, with India conducting the largest number of exercises with the US\u2014including Yudh Abhyas, Vajra Prahar, Malabar, Cope India, and Tiger Triumph\u2014alongside participation in multilateral drills like RIMPAC and Red Flag.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India also joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/08-08-2022\/combined-maritime-forces-cmf\">Combined Maritime Force (CMF) <\/a>in Bahrain in 2022.
