  • India\u2019s approach today is very different from the framework that emerged at the dawn of the 1990s and the <\/span><\/span><\/span>regional and international context<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> has also altered in many ways since the early <\/span><\/span><\/span>1990s essentially in India\u2019s favour.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    • Pakistan\u2019s ambition and Demand \u00a0 :It aims <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>to change the <\/span><\/span><\/span>status quo in Jammu<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>and Kashmir <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>with a three-pronged strategy \u2014 violent destabilisation of Kashmir while raising human rights concerns in global forums, reopen the Kashmir question that India believed was settled after the 1971 war, and leverage<\/span><\/span><\/span> global nuclear concerns to force Indian concessions on Kashmir<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                      • Following the cross border terrorist attack<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> on an\u00a0 army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir on 18 September 2016 and continued\u00a0 incidents of terrorist infiltrations, the<\/span><\/span><\/span> Indian Army conducted surgical strikes<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> at various\u00a0 terrorist launch pads across the<\/span><\/span><\/span> Line of Control<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, based on specific and credible inputs,\u00a0 and inflicted significant casualties to terrorists and those providing support to them<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                      • India and Pakistan have been engaged in “back channe<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>l” talks in order to break the stalemate in the <\/span><\/span><\/span>relationship between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                      • By changing the <\/span><\/span><\/span>constitutional status of Kashmir in 2019<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, India has reduced the scope of <\/span><\/span><\/span>India\u2019s future negotiations with Pakistan on Kashmir.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                        Way Forward\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                        • In keeping with its \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span>Neighbourhood First Policy<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201d, India desires normal neighbourly\u00a0 relations with Pakistan.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                        • \u00a0India\u00a0 has made clear that it <\/span><\/span><\/span>will not compromise<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> on issues relating to <\/span><\/span><\/span>national\u00a0 security<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and will take <\/span><\/span><\/span>firm and decisive steps<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to deal with all attempts to undermine <\/span><\/span><\/span>India\u2019s security and territorial integrity.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                          India\u2019s new initiatives<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> can reinforce the p<\/span><\/span><\/span>ositive evolution of Indian foreign <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>policy, and expand the space for Indian diplomacy in the region and beyond.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
