{"id":58330,"date":"2025-11-03T20:31:49","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T15:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=58330"},"modified":"2025-11-06T15:26:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T09:56:50","slug":"rdi-scheme-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/03-11-2025\/rdi-scheme-fund","title":{"rendered":"Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/ Science and Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PM Modi launched the <strong>\u20b91 Lakh Crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme Fund <\/strong>while inaugurating the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025 in New Delhi.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the scheme<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The scheme has an outlay of <strong>Rs 1 lakh crore over 6 years<\/strong>, with Rs 20,000 crore allocated for FY 2025\u201326, funded from the Consolidated Fund of India.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Department of Science and Technology (DST)<\/strong> will serve as the nodal department for implementation of the RDI Scheme.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Key objectives <\/strong>of the Scheme are as follows;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Encourage the private<\/strong> sector to scale up research, development, and innovation (RDI) in sunrise domains and in other sectors relevant for economic security, strategic purpose, and self-reliance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finance transformative projects at higher levels of<strong> Technology Readiness Levels (TRL),<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support acquisition of technologies<\/strong> which are critical or of high strategic importance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitate setting up of a <strong>Deep-Tech Fund of Funds.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Governing Board of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/11-09-2024\/anusandhan-national-research-foundation-anrf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/11-09-2024\/anusandhan-national-research-foundation-anrf\">Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)<\/a>, <\/strong>chaired by the Prime Minister, will provide <strong>overarching strategic direction<\/strong> to the RDI Scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s R&amp;D Landscape&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s R&amp;D expenditure has doubled in the last decade, but still remains around <strong>0.7% of GDP<\/strong>, lower than global leaders such as the USA (2.8%) and China (2.4%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The private sector<\/strong> contributes <strong>less than 40% of total R&amp;D spending,<\/strong> compared to over 70% in advanced economies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"c6bcc3\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #c6bcc3;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"555\" height=\"309\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Indias-RD-Landscape-.webp\" alt=\"India\u2019s R&amp;D Landscape\u00a0\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-58370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Indias-RD-Landscape-.webp 555w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Indias-RD-Landscape--300x167.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Initiatives to Boost R&amp;D<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>National Research Foundation (NRF): <\/strong>Aims to enhance research funding and collaboration between academia and industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Atal Innovation Mission (AIM): <\/strong>Encourages startups, entrepreneurship, and innovation among students and professionals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme: <\/strong>Supports high-tech manufacturing through incentives for R&amp;D-driven industries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Launch of National Missions<\/strong> such as;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>National Quantum Mission <\/strong>to make India one of the leading nations in the development of Quantum Technologies &amp;
