Honey Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/Economy&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s honey sector is undergoing a structured transformation as the <strong>National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM)<\/strong> continues to scale scientific beekeeping across the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a<strong> Central Sector Scheme<\/strong> launched by the Government of India for the overall promotion and development of scientific beekeeping and the production of quality honey and other beehive products.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is\u00a0 implemented through the <strong>National Bee Board (NBB) <\/strong>and was announced under the banner of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/editorial-analysis\/17-01-2023\/atmanirbharta-for-new-india\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/editorial-analysis\/17-01-2023\/atmanirbharta-for-new-india\">Atmanirbhar Bharat <\/a><\/strong>with a total budget outlay of \u20b9500 crore for three years (FY 2020\u201321 to 2022\u201323).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has since been extended for another three years (FY 2023\u201324 to 2025\u201326) with a remaining budget of \u20b9370 crore from the original allocation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was launched as a part of the \u201c<strong>Sweet Revolution\u201d<\/strong>, an ambitious initiative aimed at promoting apiculture to accelerate the production of quality honey and boost farmers\u2019 income through scientific and organized beekeeping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Importance of Beekeeping<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Beekeeping, an agro-based activity undertaken by farmers and landless labourers in rural areas, forms an integral part of the Integrated Farming System.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It plays a crucial role in pollination, thereby enhancing crop yields and farmers\u2019 income while providing honey and other high-value beehive products such as beeswax, bee pollen, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom, etc., all of which serve as important sources of livelihood for rural communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India exports a variety of natural honey like Rapeseed\/Mustard Honey, Eucalyptus Honey, Lychee Honey, Sunflower Honey, etc.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Major Indian states producing honey are: Uttar Pradesh (17%), West Bengal (16%), Punjab (14%), Bihar (12%) and Rajasthan (9%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Major export destinations included the U.S.A, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Libya.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebecf0\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Integrated farming (or integrated agriculture)<\/strong><br>&#8211; It is a commonly and broadly used word to explain a more integrated approach to farming as compared to existing monoculture approaches.&nbsp;<br>&#8211; It refers to agricultural systems that integrate livestock, fisheries, crop production, horticulture, etc.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Objectives of NBHM<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Promoting holistic growth of beekeeping industry<\/strong> for income &amp; employment generation, providing livelihood support to farm and non-farm households and to enhance agriculture\/ horticulture production;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Developing additional infrastructural facilities<\/strong> for developing quality nucleus stock of honeybees, multiplication of stock by bee breeders and post-harvest and marketing infrastructures, including honey processing plants, storages\/cold storages, collection, branding, marketing centre, etc.;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Setting up of state-of-the-art Quality Control Labs<\/strong> for testing of honey &amp; other beehive products at regional levels and Mini\/Satellite Labs at district levels in main honey producing districts\/states;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To <strong>develop blockchain\/ traceability system <\/strong>for traceability of source of honey &amp;
