GS3\/Defence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India and the U.S. signed a landmark <strong>10<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>year<\/strong><strong>road map <\/strong>to guide strategic collaboration and cooperation between the two countries across the defence spectrum.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The pact was signed following a bilateral meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his US counterpart Pete Hegseth on the sidelines of 12th <strong>ASEAN Defence Ministers\u2019 Meeting \u2013 Plus (ADMM-Plus)<\/strong> <strong>in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Features of the 10 Year Roadmap<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It emphasizes joint defence production, intelligence sharing, technology co-development, and enhanced military interoperability.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both sides committed to strengthening <strong>multilateral exercises such as Yudh Abhyas, Malabar, and Tiger Triumph<\/strong>, and to expanding partnerships in disaster response and counter-terrorism.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The pact encourages <strong>direct defence sales and joint development of advanced equipmen<\/strong>t like munitions, drones, and surveillance aircraft.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The agreement supports indigenous manufacturing under<strong> &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/26-09-2024\/10-years-of-make-in-india\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/26-09-2024\/10-years-of-make-in-india\">Make in India, Make for the World<\/a>,&#8221;<\/strong> and aims to boost India\u2019s defence production capabilities and military modernization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India-US Defence Cooperation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The United States declared India a <strong>Major Defence Partner (MDP) in 2016.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Between <strong>2016 and 2020<\/strong>, the two sides signed four more agreements, including the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) in 2016, the Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) in 2018, and the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) in 2020.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2024, both countries signed a <strong>Security of Supply Arrangement (SOSA)<\/strong> and <strong>Memorandum of Agreement <\/strong>regarding the Assignment of Liaison Officers, among other bilateral military agreements that have enhanced defence and security cooperation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>2025<\/strong>, <strong>Indian and American<\/strong> troops participated in a two-week military exercise Yudh Abhyas at Fort Wainwright in <strong>Alaska<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s defence inventory includes <strong>US- origin ware such as Super Hercules, Globemaster, Poseidon aircraft;
