It is the fifth-largest economy.<br>3. It counts Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname as <strong>associate members.<\/strong><br>1. <strong>Panama <\/strong>is the <strong>first Central American nation <\/strong>joined as an <strong>associate member<\/strong>.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India and MERCOSUR Relations: Historical Background<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India signed a <strong>Framework Agreement with MERCOSUR in 2003<\/strong>, followed by a <strong><strong>Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA<\/strong>) in 2004<\/strong>, which came into<strong> effect in 2009.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The PTA covers 450 product lines, offering mutual tariff concessions on items like pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, and leather goods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It marked <strong>India\u2019s first formal trade pact with a Latin American bloc<\/strong>, laying the groundwork for deeper economic integration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>India-Mercosur PTA<\/strong> currently provides <strong>tariff concessions on around 450\u2013452 tariff lines<\/strong>, with reductions ranging from <strong>10% to 100%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebecf0\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>India-Brazil &amp; MERCOSUR&nbsp;<\/strong><br>&#8211; <strong>India and Brazil<\/strong> have set an ambitious bilateral trade target of <strong>US$ 20 billion by 2030<\/strong>, a significant rise from <strong>US$ 12 billion in 2024<\/strong>.<br>2. Partnership<\/strong>, focusing on <strong>artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and technology start-ups<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It aims to promote <strong>green growth<\/strong>, <strong>innovation<\/strong>, and <strong>job creation<\/strong> in both countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strategic Significance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Economic Diversification:<\/strong> MERCOSUR offers India access to a market of over 300 million people, helping reduce reliance on traditional Western partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>South-South Cooperation: <\/strong>The partnership aligns with India\u2019s foreign policy vision of equitable global
