{"id":56899,"date":"2025-10-15T18:44:02","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T13:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=56899"},"modified":"2025-10-16T11:58:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T06:28:59","slug":"pm-gatishakti-4-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/15-10-2025\/pm-gatishakti-4-years","title":{"rendered":"PM GatiShakti National Master Plan Completed 4 Years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/Infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>PM GatiShakti National Master Plan<\/strong> for multi-modal connectivity has completed four years.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was launched in <strong>2021 <\/strong>for providing multimodal connectivity infrastructure to <strong>various economic zones<\/strong> and improving logistics efficiency across India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is<strong> not under a single ministry<\/strong> but is coordinated by the <strong>Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)<\/strong> under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> To provide seamless and efficient connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services across various modes of transport, thereby enhancing last-mile connectivity and reducing travel time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PM GatiShakti is driven by seven engines:<\/strong> Railways, Roads, Ports, Waterways, Airports, Mass Transport and Logistics Infrastructure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>57 Central Ministries\/Departments including 8 Infrastructure, 22 Social and 27 Economic &amp; other Ministries\/Departments have been onboarded on PMGS NMP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Achievements of PM GatiShakti in Past Four Years<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>State and UT Integration: <\/strong>All 36 States\/UTs have developed State Master Plan (SMP) Portals aligned with the National Master Plan (NMP).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over 600 projects planned and mapped on the PM GatiShakti portal, streamlining capital investment and execution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expansion to Social and Economic Sectors: <\/strong>PM GatiShakti extended to social infrastructure \u2014 education, health, and welfare.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identified infrastructure gaps in schools, hospitals, anganwadis etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhanced planning for primary healthcare, education, postal services, and tribal development, ensuring coverage of remote and underserved areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>District-Level Planning: <\/strong>The PM GatiShakti District Master Plan (DMP) portal, developed with technical support from BISAG-N, facilitates collaborative district-level planning for 28 Aspirational Districts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capacity Building and Training:<\/strong> DPIIT conducted 20,000+ official training through iGOT modules, workshops, and interactive sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International Collaboration:<\/strong> Engagement with Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Senegal, and Gambia to promote geospatial technology and integrated infrastructure planning through the PM GatiShakti framework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Overview of the Logistics Landscape in India<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s logistics sector was valued at <strong>USD 215 billion in 2021.<\/strong> It is well-positioned for strong growth with an expected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of <strong>10.7% till 2026.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"bed0de\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"627\" height=\"544\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PM-GatiShakti-National-Master-Plan-Completed-4-Years.webp\" alt=\"PM GatiShakti National Master Plan Completed 4 Years\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-56920\" style=\"--dominant-color: #bed0de; width:407px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PM-GatiShakti-National-Master-Plan-Completed-4-Years.webp 627w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PM-GatiShakti-National-Master-Plan-Completed-4-Years-300x260.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2017, a <strong>separate logistics unit <\/strong>was created under the Department of Commerce to oversee the Integrated Development of Logistics Sector.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Logistics Industry supports<\/strong> manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, and services by managing inventory, transportation, storage, warehousing, and distribution, linking producers to consumers, both domestically and internationally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High Logistics Cost:<\/strong> India\u2019s logistics cost is very high at around 13\u201314% of GDP, making Indian exports less competitive compared to global peers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Infrastructure Gaps:<\/strong> The sector suffers from infrastructure gaps in warehousing, cold storage, and last-mile connectivity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multimodal Transport Issues: <\/strong>The low share of railways and inland waterways in freight transport hampers the development of an efficient multimodal system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Environmental Concerns: <\/strong>Heavy dependence on diesel-based trucking increases carbon emissions and contributes to environmental pollution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Government Initiatives in Logistics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/20-12-2024\/viksit-bharat-by-2047\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/20-12-2024\/viksit-bharat-by-2047\">Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047: <\/a><\/strong>It is aligned with blue economy principles, lays out a long-term roadmap to transform India\u2019s maritime sector.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The vision also aims to boost coastal tourism, strengthen maritime skill development, and position India as a global hub for shipbuilding and repair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dedicated Freight Corridors: <\/strong>The Ministry of Railways is currently developing two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The objectives of these specialized railway lines are to ease congestion on existing passenger routes, lower transportation costs, and improve energy efficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e8eef7\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"644\" height=\"674\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-51.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-56900\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e8eef7;
