style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has recently approved appointments to fill 23 vacancies, including 11 as judicial members and 12 as administrative members, in the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:13pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><strong>About Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Legislature<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>The Armed Forces Tribunal Act 2007<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">, was passed by the Parliament and led to the formation of AFT.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The Tribunal shall transact their proceedings as per the <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Armed Forces Tribunal (Procedure) rules, 2008.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Functions<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>It has the power provided for the adjudication or trial by Armed Forces Tribunal of disputes and complaints<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> with respect to commission, appointments, enrolments and conditions of service in respect of persons subject to the Army Act, 1950, The Navy Act, 1957 and the Air Force Act, 1950.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">It can further <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>provide for appeals<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> arising out of orders, findings or sentences of courts- martial held under the said Acts and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Bench<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Besides the <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>Principal Bench in New Delhi<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">, AFT has <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>Regional Benches<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> at Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Jabalpur, Srinagar and Jaipur.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Appointments<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The Judicial Members are retired <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>High Court Judges<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> and Administrative Members are retired Members of the Armed Forces who have held the rank<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong> of Major General\/ equivalent<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> or above for a period of three years or more.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>Judge Advocate General (JAG)<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> who have held the appointment for at least one year are also entitled to be appointed as the Administrative Member.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Other features<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>All proceedings<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> in the Tribunal will be in <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>English.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The Tribunal will normally <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">follow the procedure as is practiced in the High Courts of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span
