class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Union Cabinet has approved the addition of <strong>10,023 medical seats<\/strong> with an investment of <strong>Rs. 15,034 crore<\/strong>, as part of the goal to create<strong> 75,000<\/strong> medical seats within the next five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Cabinet approved <strong>5,000 post-graduate<\/strong> and <strong>5,023 undergraduate (MBBS) seats<\/strong> in government colleges and hospitals by <strong>2028-29.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Union government will fund<strong> 68.5%<\/strong> of the project <strong>(Rs. 10,303.20 crore),<\/strong> with the remaining <strong>Rs. 4,731.30 class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medical colleges in India doubled to<strong> 808 in 2025-26<\/strong> from 387 in 2013-14, with undergraduate seats up 141% and postgraduate seats up 144%.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are <strong>1,23,700 MBBS<\/strong> (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) seats today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)<\/strong> were approved under the <strong>Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana<\/strong>, which aims to make affordable and reliable tertiary healthcare accessible to all people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To facilitate the addition of new faculty, the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/05-04-2023\/national-medical-commission\"> National Medical Commission<\/a> <\/strong>notified the <strong>Medical Institution (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025<\/strong> recently.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure professionals, leading to disparities in healthcare access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited Medical Research Funding:<\/strong> Medical research in India is constrained by inadequate funding and resource limitations, leading to a gap in research and innovation in medical education.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Brain Drain:<\/strong> Many highly skilled doctors and specialists prefer working abroad due to better pay, research opportunities, and work environment.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expansion of seats may not automatically retain talent if incentives and career growth
