Climate Change Conference COP 30<\/strong> in Brazil in November.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About NDCs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The NDCs are <strong>renewable-energy adoption goals <\/strong>set by a country as part of <strong>being a signatory to the Paris Agreement.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Countries <strong>must regulate their fossil fuel consumption<\/strong> to keep the globe from heating <strong>2\u00b0C,<\/strong> and as far as possible, <strong>1.5\u00b0C <\/strong>above that in pre-industrial times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Countries are required to update their NDCs <strong>every five years.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>India last updated its NDCs in 2022:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It committed to reduce the emissions <strong>intensity of its GDP by 45% of 2005 <\/strong>levels;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>source <strong>half of its electric power<\/strong> capacity from <strong>non-fossil fuel sources;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and create a <strong>carbon sink<\/strong> of at least two billion tonnes \u2014 all three by 2030.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebecf0\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>About UN Climate Change Conference<\/strong><br>&#8211; <strong>The United Nations Climate Change Conferences,<\/strong> often referred to as <strong>COP (Conference of the Parties),<\/strong> are international gatherings where countries come together to discuss and <strong>negotiate global efforts to address climate change.<\/strong>\u00a0<br>&#8211; These conferences are organized under <strong>the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC),<\/strong> an international treaty came into force in <strong>1994<\/strong> with the objective of stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.<br>&#8211; The COP meetings are held<strong> annually<\/strong>, and each conference is numbered sequentially.\u00a0<br>&#8211; The conferences provide a platform for <strong>countries to assess progress in dealing with climate change, negotiate agreements, and make decisions on a wide range of issues related to climate action.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Progress India Made<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emissions intensity of GDP refers to the <strong>amount of carbon emitted per unit of GDP <\/strong>and does not mean a reduction in net emissions.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>As of 2023<\/strong>, India reported to the United Nations climate-governing body that the <strong>emissions intensity of its GDP had been reduced by 33%<\/strong> between <strong>2005 and 2019.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By June 2025, India reported installing <strong>at least 50% of its power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Targets for 2035<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The updated NDCs, or NDC 3.0 <\/strong>as they are called, is expected to reflect the <strong>degree of emissions reductions by 2035.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>So far, only 30 of the 190-odd countries have submitted their NDCs <\/strong>though it is not uncommon for countries to submit their NDCs just ahead of the annual climate talks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expected NDCs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The EU is expected to <strong>submit its NDCs ahead of COP30 <\/strong>with an <strong>indicative 2035 target<\/strong> in <strong>a range from 66.25% and 72.5% reduction, compared to 1990 levels<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Australia <\/strong>this month <strong>updated its NDCs <\/strong>aimed <strong>to cut emissions 62%-70% of 2005 levels by 2035.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The United States has exited the Paris Agreemen<\/strong>t and it remains to be seen if China will announce ambitious NDCs ahead of COP 30.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India is also <strong>expected to operationalise the India Carbon Market by 2026 <\/strong>\u2014 under which 13 major sectors will be given mandatory emission-intensity targets \u2014 and can trade their resulting savings via emission reduction certificates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/energy-and-environment\/india-to-submit-updated-carbon-curbing-targets-around-november\/article70085220.ece\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TH<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n<li class=\"ms-5\">India will submit its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) around the commencement of U.N.
