Farmers Welfare<\/strong> in collaboration with the <strong>Asian Development Bank<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The National Horticulture Board (NHB) serves as an implementing and executing agency in association with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which oversees technical progress and facilitates capacity building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is a novel initiative aimed at ensuring <strong>healthy, disease-free planting material<\/strong> of key fruit crops.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Features of CPP<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Farmers:<\/strong>&nbsp; Access to virus-free, high-quality planting material, for boosting crop yields and enhancing farmer income opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nurseries<\/strong>: Provides streamlined certification processes and offers infrastructure support, enabling nurseries to effectively propagate clean planting material and promote growth and sustainability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consumers<\/strong>: Delivers superior produce free from viruses, improving the taste, appearance, and nutritional value of fruits available to consumers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exports<\/strong>: Strengthens India\u2019s position as a leading global exporter by focusing on higher-quality, disease-free fruits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Equity and Inclusivity: <\/strong>Ensures affordable clean plant access for all farmers, promotes women&#8217;s participation through training and resources, and develops region-specific varieties suited to India&#8217;s diverse agro-climatic conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Importance&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CPP is set to boost<strong> India\u2019s horticultural sector<\/strong> while aligning with <strong>Mission LiFE<\/strong> and the<strong> One Health initiatives<\/strong> to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moreover, through plant health management, <strong>CPP helps farmers adapt to climate change<\/strong>, as rising temperatures not only trigger extreme weather events but also influence pest and disease behaviour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CPP <\/strong>&nbsp;complements the <strong>Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)-<\/strong> a centrally sponsored scheme, launched in 2014\u201315 for holistic growth of the horticulture sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concerns&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Climate change and plant diseases, especially from viruses, are causing major agricultural losses in India despite efforts to boost productivity.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These threats reduce crop yield, quality, and lifespan, and are hard to manage once symptoms appear.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using disease-free planting materials is the most effective solution.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion and Way Forward<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Clean Plant Programme (CPP) <\/strong>is steadily moving forward, with several initiatives already underway and more planned to expand its impact.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the coming phase, the programme will focus on tangible on-ground actions such as broader consultations with nurseries for certification, development of training modules for relevant authorities, creation of a hazard analysis protocol for citrus, and diagnostic protocols for crops like mango, guava, litchi, avocado, and dragon fruit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebecf0\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)<\/strong><br>&#8211; It is an India-led global mass movement to nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment.\u00a0<br>1. Introduced by PM Narendra Modi at COP26 in Glasgow on 1st November 2021, it draws from India\u2019s rich cultural heritage, which promotes conservation of natural resources and harmony with nature.<br>2. It seeks to channel the efforts of individuals and communities into a global mass movement of positive behavioural change.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/editorial-analysis\/24-08-2023\/indias-one-health-mission\"><strong>National One Health Mission<\/strong><br><\/a>&#8211; One Health is a multidisciplinary approach that unites human, animal, and environmental health sectors to solve the health, productivity, and conservation challenges.\u00a0<br>1.
