genocide in Gaza, <\/strong>accusing its leadership of incitement and intent to destroy the Palestinian population.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Genocide?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The term &#8220;genocide&#8221; was coined in <strong>1944 by Polish lawyer Raphael Lemkin, <\/strong>combining the Greek word genos (race\/tribe) and Latin cide (killing).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He developed the concept in response to the Holocaust and other historical mass killings.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Genocide <\/strong>was first <strong>acknowledged as a crime by the UN General Assembly in 1946<\/strong>, and formally codified in the
