class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has voted in <strong>favour of a resolution<\/strong> in the<strong> UN General Assembly<\/strong> that endorses the <strong>\u2018New York Declaration\u2019<\/strong> on the <strong>peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue<\/strong> and implementation of the <strong>two-state solution.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The resolution was introduced by <strong>France <\/strong>and was adopted with an overwhelming <strong>142 nations voting in favour<\/strong>, 10 against and 12 abstentions.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Those voting against included <strong>Argentina, Hungary, Israel and the United States.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the declaration, the leaders agreed to take<strong> collective action to end the war<\/strong> in <strong>Gaza,<\/strong> to achieve a just, peaceful and<strong> lasting settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The resolution is based on the effective implementation of the <strong>two-state solution,<\/strong> and to build a better future for Palestinians, Israelis and all peoples of the region.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It called on the Israeli leadership to issue a <strong>clear public commitment<\/strong> to the two-state solution, including a sovereign, and viable Palestinian State.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s Stand on Israeli-Palestinian conflict<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India was the first non-Arab country to recognize the <strong>Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1974.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In 1988,<\/strong> India was one of the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India consistently voted in favour of Palestinian resolutions at the UN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support for Palestinian Statehood:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India supports <strong>a two-state solution <\/strong>\u2013 peaceful coexistence of Israel and Palestine within secure and recognized borders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advocates East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine (based on UN resolutions).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strongly supports Palestine\u2019s membership in international organizations (e.g., UNESCO, UNGA observer state status in 2012).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High Level Visits: <\/strong>Prime Minister Modi paid a historic visit to Palestine in 2018, the first for an Indian Prime Minister.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prior to that, former President Pranab Mukherjee visited Palestine in 2015, marking the first visit by an Indian President to Palestine.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Development Assistance:<\/strong> India has provided various forms of developmental cooperation assistance to Palestine over the years amounting to approximately US$ 141 million.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India, Brazil, South Africa (IBSA) Fund has also funded four projects in Palestine worth US$ 5 mn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>At the UN, India stresses:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rejection of violence and terrorism from both sides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need for humanitarian aid to Gaza.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for diplomatic and peaceful settlement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>India\u2019s position reflects a delicate balance: <\/strong>Even when India\u2019s relationship with Israel flourished in the past three decades, it has maintained a<strong> careful balance between its new partnership and historical commitment towards Palestine.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has a strategic partnership with Israel in <strong>defence, agriculture, and innovation.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India frames its stance as \u201c<strong>principled support for Palestine, pragmatic partnership with Israel.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India supports Palestine\u2019s right to statehood and a two-state solution, while simultaneously
