It limits early exposure and hands-on skill development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited Pathways:<\/strong> Vocational training in India lacks a clear route to higher education, making it a dead-end for many students.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It discourages participation and undermines its credibility as a viable career path.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vocational Training Deficit &amp; Low Employment: <\/strong>In 2022, only 48% of ITI seats were filled, and employment rates among graduates stood at 63%, below the 80\u201390% achieved in countries like Germany, Singapore, and Canada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Poor Quality and Perceptions: <\/strong>Outdated curricula, vacant instructor positions, weak monitoring, and minimal industry participation have made VET unattractive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited Industry Engagement: <\/strong>Indian ITIs remain dependent on government funding, while global models rely on strong public\u2013private partnerships.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employer involvement \u2014 particularly from MSMEs \u2014 is minimal, reducing training quality and job linkages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Structural Barriers:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Social Stigma:<\/strong> Vocational careers are often viewed as inferior to white-collar jobs, discouraging youth participation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fragmented Curriculum:<\/strong> Many programs lack updated content and fail to reflect current industry needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Insufficient Infrastructure:<\/strong> Schools and ITIs often lack modern equipment and skilled trainers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Current Policy Measures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Government Initiatives:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY):<\/strong> It offers short-term courses, sometimes as brief as 10 days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY)<\/strong>: It targets rural youth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS):<\/strong> It encourages industry-based training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/blog\/national-education-policy\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/blog\/national-education-policy\/\">National Education Policy (NEP) 2020<\/a>:<\/strong> It aims to integrate vocational education from pre-school to Grade 12, breaking the divide between academic and skill-based learning.
