class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the <strong>NCRB\u2019s Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India (ADSI) Report<\/strong>, 7.6% of total suicides in 2022 were by students, 2,248 student suicides were directly attributed to exam failure.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It marks a slight decline from 8.0% in 2021 and 8.2% in 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Factors Responsible For Student Suicide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Individual vulnerabilities:<\/strong> Low self-esteem, impulsivity, trauma histories, history of physical or sexual abuse, and learning and intellectual disability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Family Pressures:<\/strong> Over-anxious and over-ambitious parents, dysfunctional family, criticisms, comparisons with peers and lack of support in the family, alcoholism, violence, psychological and economic problems in the family increases suicidal risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Systemic flaws:<\/strong> One-point evaluation, media hype around results, and lack of career guidance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Institutional stressors<\/strong>: Pressure on teachers and students to achieve 100% pass rates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Case Study: Kota<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s obsession with competitive entrance exams has led to the rise of coaching hubs like Kota, Rajasthan, where over 200,000 students enroll annually.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The intense study schedules, isolation, and lack of recreational outlets have contributed to 29 suicides in Kota alone in 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Policy Initiatives and Mental Health Interventions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tele-MANAS Programme:<\/strong> A national tele-mental health helpline (dial 14416), with over 1.36 million calls handled across 42 centers in 31 states &amp; UTs .<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>District Mental Health Programme (DMHP):<\/strong> Offers suicide prevention services and life skills training in schools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>National Suicide Prevention Strategy (NSPS)<\/strong>: Aims to reduce suicide rates by 10% by 2030 through media sensitization, healthcare strengthening, and limiting access to lethal means.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manodarpan Programme:<\/strong> A flagship initiative by the Ministry of Education aligns with the <strong>National Education Policy (NEP) 2020<\/strong>, which advocates for a <strong>\u2018light but tight\u2019 regulatory framework.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Currently, higher education oversight is fragmented:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>UGC<\/strong>: Non-technical education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>AICTE<\/strong>: Technical
